Two individuals have been detained at a rally in Batumi earlier today in which the opposition and their supporters demand a meeting with the head of government of Adjara Autonomous Republic Tornike Rizhvadze.

The individuals have been detained in front of the governmental building for ‘disobedience to police and hooliganism.’

Protesters say that the region faces severe social problems and that Rizhvadze is unable to cope with them.

The government of Georgia has imposed coronavirus restrictions until January 31, 2021 to curb the spread of the virus.

Big cities in Georgia, including Batumi, face additional restrictions as daily coronavirus cases hit almost 4,000 on a daily basis in the country.
