The Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara has held its first session today while the opposition held a rally outside the building of the Supreme Council during which four people were detained.

Four protesters have been detained. They tried to climb the fence and despite numerous calls from the government special service to come down from the fence, they did not obey. Police in the area also called on them to obey the lawful request of the police and come down from the fence, but they did not follow the request", said head of the Adjara Police Department Kote Ananiashvili.

The opposition refuses to take up its mandates on the Supreme Council and held demonstrations in front of the Supreme Council building, claiming the election was rigged.

There are a total of 21 MPs in the Supreme Council and the ruling Georgian Dream party has a constitutional majority with 14 seats.

The demonstrators say they are not going to stop the protest and express solidarity with the detainees.
