Georgia reports 38 new coronavirus cases, record high since April

Georgia has reported 38 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, which is a record high number since April 16 when 42 cases of coronavirus were detected. 

The number of recoveries has increased by 17, reaching 1,270. 

Medical Director of Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital Marina Ezugbaia said that 22 new patients contracted the virus from the cluster of confectionery Dona in Georgia's Black Sea resort town of Batumi, seven cases from contact from infected individuals, four cases were ‘imported’ of which two are truck drivers and the source of infections has not been identified in the remaining five cases.

Currently 251 people are undergoing treatment at Covid centres of which three are in critical and 15are in severe condition",  said Ezurgbaia.

In total 19 people have died of the virus in the country, 5,806 people are in quarantine, and 41 citizens of Georgia have been transported home from abroad for treatment.
