Georgia reports 38 new coronavirus cases, record high since April

Georgia has reported 38 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, which is a record high number since April 16 when 42 cases of coronavirus were detected.
The number of recoveries has increased by 17, reaching 1,270.
Medical Director of Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital Marina Ezugbaia said that 22 new patients contracted the virus from the cluster of confectionery Dona in Georgia's Black Sea resort town of Batumi, seven cases from contact from infected individuals, four cases were ‘imported’ of which two are truck drivers and the source of infections has not been identified in the remaining five cases.
Currently 251 people are undergoing treatment at Covid centres of which three are in critical and 15are in severe condition", said Ezurgbaia.

In total 19 people have died of the virus in the country, 5,806 people are in quarantine, and 41 citizens of Georgia have been transported home from abroad for treatment.

Georgia has reported 18 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 1,487. As of today, 19 more patients have recovered, reaching the total number of recovered people to 1,240.
Seven more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Georgia increasing the total number of confirmed cases to 1469. With the recent 25 recoveries the number of recovered individuals now stands at 1221.
Medical Director of Tbilisi Infectious Disease Hospital Marina Ezugbaia said that three out of the seven people had contact with infected individuals, two cases are ‘imported’ while the source of infection of two others is yet unknown.
The quarantine restrictions have been lifted today in the Mestia municipality in western Georgia, one of the most visited tourist attractions in the country, which was under lockdown after 17 people tested positive for the coronavirus on August 10.
Despite the micro-epidemic in the Georgian Black Sea resort city of Batumi, where 22 new cases of coronavirus have been reported during the last 24 hours, the city will not be put under lockdown.
The Georgian government’s key goal today is to manage the coronavirus pandemic with minimal risks as a new academic year is around the corner which will further increase mobility, especially in big cities, Georgian PM Gakharia said earlier today.
Once a vaccine for the coronavirus is approved, it will be available to the Georgian population, at first primarily to risk groups, said Head of the National Disease Control Centre Amiran Gamkrelidze earlier today.
Two employees of Nikora supermarket at Vazha-Pshavela Avenue close to Medical University metro station as well as five employees of Zgapari supermarket at Rustavi Highway have been infected with COVID-19 in Georgia.
