New bill to allow fines for individuals, companies not wearing face masks, banning large social events

The Georgian parliament has passed a bill with its third and final reading today which allows fining of individuals and companies for not wearing face masks in closed public areas, public transport and taxis, and for gatherings of more than 10 individuals for birthdays, weddings, funerals and other social events.
Individuals will be fined by 20 GEL for not wearing face masks in closed public areas, in public transport and taxis.
Both drivers and passengers will be fined.
For the violation legal entities will be fined 500 GEL.
All individuals at a social event with more than 10 people will be fined 2,000 GEL and a legal entity will be fined 10,000 GEL.
The measure is temporary and will be valid at least by July 15.
The author of the bill, ruling party MP Anri Okhanashvili said that the measure may be prolonged taking the epidemiological situation into account.
Every individual with a fever or other respiratory symptoms must consult a doctor, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said earlier today.

Georgia has reported just one new case of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 828. 694 of the 828 patients have recovered, while 13 others have died. As of today 121 people remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia. The source of infection of the new patient has been identified. She is an elderly woman with several chronic diseases.
Five more individuals have tested positive for the coronavirus in Georgia since this morning, increasing the number of total confirmed cases to 827. Head of Georgia’s National Disease Control Centre Amiran Gamkrelidze said the sources of infection in the five new cases is unknown so far.
Georgia has reported six new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of new cases to 843. 697 of the 846 patients have recovered, while 13 others have died. All of the six new patients are in Tbilisi. Several of them do not know how they contracted the virus. The individuals are who had contact with the new patients are being identified.
Municipal transport, recreation zones, restaurants to be under strict control to avoid more coronavirus-related cases in the country, the Georgian government’s press office reports.
Georgia has reported 15 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 879. 704 of the 879 patients have recovered, while 14 others have died. As of today 161 people remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia. 10 of the 15 new patients are from the quarantine zone, two are medical personnel and one is from the Saburtalo cluster.
Individuals will be fined 20 GEL (about $6.6/€5.8) for not wearing face masks in closed public areas, public transport and taxis starting today.
