Parliament approves 1st reading of bill which fines individuals for not wearing face masks

The Georgian parliament has approved the first reading of bill earlier today which fines individuals by 20 GEL for not wearing face masks in closed public areas.
Per the bill, for the violation legal entities will be fined by 500 GEL.
Passengers or a driver will be fined 20 GEL if individuals refuse to wear face masks in public transport.
The measure is temporary and will be valid at least by July 15 if the parliament approves the bill with its all, three readings.
The author of the bill, ruling party MP Anri Okhanashvili said that the measure may be prolonged taking the epidemiological situation into account.
Five more individuals have tested positive for the coronavirus in Georgia since this morning, increasing the number of total confirmed cases to 827. Head of Georgia’s National Disease Control Centre Amiran Gamkrelidze said the sources of infection in the five new cases is unknown so far.
Georgia has reported just one new case of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 810. 683 of the 810 patients have recovered, while 13 others have died. As of today 114 people remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia. Starting today, intercity transport, currency exchange booths and all types of restaurants which have received permission from the Georgian Health Ministry have resumed work.

All of the six new patients are in Tbilisi. Several of them do not know how they contracted the virus. The individuals are who had contact with the new patients are being identified.
