For the first time in Georgia avalanche rescue dogs are being introduced to emergency response teams at Gudauri and Tetnuldi ski resorts, announces the Mountain Resorts Development Company who has signed an agreement with the Austrian Development Agency.
There are freeride ski areas in Tetnuldi and Gudairi which are avalanche zones. Some slopes may be hit by medium-risk or high-risk spontaneous avalanches. Despite rescue work carried out by qualified rescue teams and rescuers, the number of people injured in avalanches has increased in the last four years, and in many cases visitors did not have appropriate special equipment, which makes it difficult to find a specific location for the victim. That's where avalanche rescue dogs come in", reads the press-release published by the agency.
It is planned to purchase two Belgian Shepherds and training equipment. It is also planned to have specially assigned rescue service personnel trained by a cynologist.
