Georgia working to introduce 5G internet in 2020

The Georgian National Communications Commission is taking action to introduce 5G internet in Georgia by 2020, announces the commission.
We will soon introduce 5G technology as the country’s economic development path goes through a new generation of internet technologies. 5G internet is a necessary precondition for the development of such important areas in the country as the economy, healthcare, education, business and more", read the press-release published by the Georgian National Communications Commission.
5G is the latest wireless mobile phone technology, first deployed in 2019 in several countries. 5G is expected to dramatically increase internet speeds, and allow for a wide range of new applications, including in the e-health sector (telemedicine, remote surveillance, telesurgery).
The commission announced that it had already carried out "large-scale work" to introduce 5G internet and soon will announce a tender for telecommunications companies.
The commission explained that 5G internet is absolutely safe for health and recent rumours on social media that 5G internet is bad for health is "disinformation".
The Georgian National Communications Commission has approved rules and obligations for both internet service provider companies and the owners of websites to protect children from harmful content on the internet.
A total of 631 socially vulnerable high-school students in Georgia now have access to the internet with the help of 1,784 supporters that donated 279,768 GEL through the charity initiative ‘Charte.’
