Georgian National Communications Commission has responded to claims of local internet and mobile telecommunications operator MagtiCom, which had claimed the entry of mobile virtual network operators (MVNO) in Georgia planned for February 2021 will 'endanger personal data and cyber security'.
The commission said that this is disinformation and 'does not correspond to the truth'.
The Communications Commission has decided to allow virtual operators to enter the mobile communications market of Georgia in order to liberalise and improve the market. The entry of MVNO will increase the competition in the market, which will affect the tariff offers and quality in the long run", said the commission.
The commission said that MagtiCom informed certain media outlets that the Communications Commission had made the decision to enter the mobile virtual operators market hastily and without risk assessment, which is why the commission has to conduct a new study.
"The commission has been working on allowing the entry of MVNO for two years and mobile operators and international consulting companies with 20 years of experience were all involved in this process. We emphasise that the issue of personal data as well as cyber security is protected", said the commission.
