Investigation launched into damaged fiber-optic cables that supplied Georgia, Armenia with internet

Fiber-optic cables of international importance that provided Poti-Tbilisi-Bolnisi-Dmanisi-Armenia with internet were damaged, however the internet supply is now restored and Dmanisi and Marneuli police divisions under Kvemo Kartli Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have already launched an investigation.

The police department announced that in the late hours of September 29, 2020, unidentified individual/individuals removed the soil and damaged fiber-optic cables of underground telecommunication near the utility poles owned by fiber-optic telecommunications network, located in vicinities of Orozmani village, Dmanisi municipality. 

It was detected that fiber-optic cable stretched across the water canal has been cut. The mentioned cable provided local residents with internet services and was linked to the internet supply system of the Republic of Armenia", says the police.

Dmanisi and Marneuli police divisions continue the investigation.
