Interior Ministry says text messages from UCKEBA 'completely false’

The Georgian Interior Ministry announced that text messages from “UCKEBA” contain false information about fining individuals for violating the curfew. 

The Ministry stated that "customers of certain Georgian mobile operators" have received text messages on behalf of “UCKEBA” saying:

You’ve been fined for breaching the curfew regulations in the amount of 3000 GEL. R.M. police.ge”.

Stressing they did not send any text messages the Interior Ministry said therefore the content is completely false. An inquiry has been launched to reveal the source of the misleading information. 

Georgia has declared the state of emergency to prevent the spread of the coronavirus until April 21, which includes a curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. 

Failure to comply with the state of emergency results in a fine of 3,000 GEL for individuals and 15,000 GEL for legal entities; repeat offence is punishable by three years in prison.
