Georgian doctors save coronavirus patient with 3% chance of survival

A patient who was in critical condition with underlying chronic diseases has recovered from a brush with COVID-19 and will be discharged from the First University Clinic today, said Levan Ratiani, the director of the clinic.
The woman was transferred to our clinic with acute pneumonia and respiratory failure. Also, she had hypertension and heart failure”, said Ratiani.
Ratiani added that in such severe health conditions, the fatality rate is 97 per cent, though with the help of doctors, the patient recovered and will leave the hospital on the 14th day.
The cured patient will be in self-isolation for the next couple of weeks in line with the recommendation introduced by the World Health Organization.

The number of coronavirus cases has reached 115 in Georgia, including 22 patients who have recovered.
5,106 are under quarantine in Georgia and 294 others are in hospitals.
There are about forty fever clinics throughout the country which are ready to treat patients, said Deputy Minister of Health Tamar Gabunia earlier today. Gabunia noted that many hospitals in the regions had refused to accept patients with fever. She added that the hospitals which can take in patients with fever have already been identified in the regions.
More than 2,200 individuals have been tested for coronavirus in Georgia since February 26, 2020 and only 110 have been positive.
Tougher restrictions to contain the spread of COVID-19 go into force today, including a nationwide curfew that will be in effect from 21:00 – 06:00. Public transport has also been suspended, and the public cannot gather in groups of more than three people. The measures will be in place until at least April 21. Georgia has had 110 confirmed cases of the virus starting from February 26, 2020.
Georgia has expanded the category of people who will be tested for COVID-19 as there have been cases of internal transmission over the past several days.
24 ‘online clinics’ are ready to provide services to patients with fever and respiratory symptoms, said Deputy Minister of Health Tamar Gabunia earlier today. The online clinics are call-centres where patients can be given consultation by doctors.
Georgia has reported four new cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 130. One of the four new cases reported today is connected with Armenia, two cases with France and the source of the remaining one is being identified, Director of Tbilisi Hospital of Infections Diseases Marina Ezugbaia said earlier today.
Georgia has confirmed the first case of mortality from COVID-19 this morning out of the total 156 confirmed cases in the country since February 26. Director of the First University Clinic Levan Ratiani stated that the woman, 79, was from the eastern Georgian region of Marneuli.
About 20 doctors and several employees of the Interior Ministry have tested positive for coronavirus, said Minister of Health Ekaterine Tikaradze earlier today. She said that soldiers have not tested positive for the new coronavirus.
