Georgian duo of Maria Kazakova and Giorgi Revia earned spots at the next Winter Youth Olympic Games and entertained crowds at the World Figure Skating Championships in Zagreb with a performance of a Georgian traditional dance on ice over the weekend.
The two figure skaters were among 31 pairs from 24 countries in the Croatian capital, as the competition’s honours included not only prize-winning positions but places at the upcoming Olympics.
Their performance earned Kazakova and Revia — who are coached by Denis Samokhin and Maria Borovikova — 155.4 points and sixth position in eventual ratings.
The two also capped their appearance at the World Championships on March 10 with a performance of the Georgian traditional dance, adapted to ice rink.
Praised as having represented “the particular attraction of Georgian traditions” on the international stage with the piece, the dance was a highlight of the duo’s appearance at the contest.
With Kazakova and Revia claiming their spots for the 2020 Olympics, they were joined in the achievement by two more competitors from Georgia.
Irakli Maisuradze and Alina Urushadze will join them in Lausanne after successfully concluding their appearance on the ice in the capital city.
