Police burn drugs worth $3 million

Georgian law enforcers have seized up to 10 kg heroin this year, the Georgian Interior Ministry says.

The officers of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department of the Interior Ministry of Georgia have arrested a Ukrainian national identified as only O.S.

Georgian law enforcers have detained three people and prevented a drug deal taking place. A Russian citizen was arrested for illegal purchase and distribution of drugs.

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has detained seven individuals for online drug trafficking, four are a family of a  mother, father and two children.

One man of Chechen origin has been detained during a special operation on Kavtaradze street in Tbilisi, reports Rustavi 2. Media report that the detainee is suspected of involvement in narcotics crimes. 

Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri stated that 2020 was a year of ‘sudden and difficult challenges.’ “The ministry had to carry out a range of activities at the same time. We were ensuring order and safety, controlling the state border, fighting with criminal, ensuring the defence of human rights, fighting against fires and natural disasters, ensuring a safe electoral environment, ensuring traffic safety, carrying out infrastructural projects and the instructions of the Government's Coordinating Council against coronavirus round the clock,” Gomelauri said. 

Georgian law enforcers detained 11 individuals for online drug trafficking and closed four online drugstores in the first four months of 2021, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said in his annual report to parliament today.
