Police seize 12 packs of heroin in western Georgia

Police have detained a Georgian citizen for the purchase and possession of 12 packs of heroin in the western Georgian region of Imereti.

The Georgian Interior Ministry reported today that the individual, identified only as O.Ch., born in 1946, was found in possession of “especially large quantity of drugs” in Kutaisi.

The ministry also noted that the individual had been formerly convicted and is currently on parole for drug offences.

The crime is punishable by eight to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.

The Georgian Interior Ministry has recently destroyed narcotic and psychotropic drugs worth three million USD (9 million GEL), confiscated during the investigation of 765 different cases around the country.
