Inflation in September: prices for food, non-alcoholic beverages increase by 3.3 per cent

Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages in Georgia increased by 3.3 percent compared to the previous month, show the latest inflation data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

In particular prices increased in the following subgroups:

  • Fruit and grapes - 9.8%
  • Milk, cheese and eggs - 8.1%
  • Mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices - 3%
  • Vegetables - 2.7%
  • Meat - 2.3%
  • Sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery - 1.6%
  • Fish - 0.8%
  • Oils and fats - 0.7%

Monthly prices for education went up by 2.7 per cent.

Prices of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increased by 1.3 per cent compared to August 2019. 

Prices of transport decreased by 0.2 per cent compared to the previous month. 

Overall, monthly inflation in Georgia increased by 1.7 per cent, while the annual inflation rate amounted to 6.4  per cent.
