Georgian weightlifter and Olympic champion Lasha Talakhadze has made history by snatching 219kg at the Georgian championship yesterday.
Talakhadze, 26, was competing in the +109 kg category in the weightlifting championship that was held in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on August 15-17.
As for the clean and jerk, he managed to lift 255kg, which gave the reigning Olympic and world champion an overall total of 474kg.
Talakhadze set a world record by snatching 218kg at the European Weightlifting Federation’s championship that was held in Georgia’s seaside town of Batumi on April 6-13.
However, his results will not be acknowledged as a world record this time as the Georgian championship is not included in the calendar of the International Weightlifting Federation.
