Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia met with foreign diplomats today to discuss the erection of artificial barriers in the village of Gugutiantkari, in Gori Municipality, and its impact on the local population.
Gugutiantkari is located near one of the Russian occupied Georgian regions of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia). Therefore, Darsalia said such “destructive steps” negatively affect the humanitarian and security situation of people living near the occupation line.
At the meeting he noted importance of the "consolidated effort" of the international community to counter the "illegal processes" taking place along the occupation line.
On their part, the foreign diplomats again reiterated their support to Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and peace policy, the Georgian foreign ministry reported.
The occupation forces started erecting a so-called border in the village of Gugutiantkari on the eve of the eleventh anniversary of the 2008 Russia-Georgia war.
Barbed wires, installed by the occupying forces in the village of Khurvaleti are only 400 meters away from the central Georgian highway.
