Three die in helicopter crash in Kazbegi, Georgia

Three people have died as a helicopter belonging to Rooms Hotel Kazbegi crashed today in Stepantsminda, region of Kazbegi, Georgia.

Three people were onboard and all of them died. Two were crew members while the third person was an employee of Rooms Hotel Kazbegi.

Adjara Group, which owns the hotel, stated the aircraft had no technical problems as it passed technical inspection on May 22.

Georgian Interior Ministry says that an investigation has been launched to find out the crash cause.

Energy provider company Energo-Pro-Georgia stated it rules out any possibility of the helicopter crashing into power lines as no electricity cut was detected today.

Onlookers told InterPressNews that they heard a blast and saw the helicopter engulfed in flames while still in the air. Afterwards, it fell to the ground.

Locals say the helicopter was on its way from the village of Achkhoti and was to land near the Rooms Hotel but it crashed when it reached Stepantsminda.
