The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) has issued a 5 GEL (Georgian lari) collector coin, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of issuance of the first Georgian National postage stamp.
The first Georgian national postal stamp was issued in denominations of 10 Kopek (Russian coins) dedicated to the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Georgia on May 26, 1919.
The price of the coin is 90 GEL (about $33.27/€ 29.84) and sale will start from May 6, 2019, said the NBG. The coins can be purchased from the Cash Center of the NBG, Money Museum in Kvareli and online.
The main composition of the obverse is the layout of the first Georgian national postage stamp in denomination of 10 Kopek as well as fragments of the postage stamps of four denominations (40k, 50k, 60k, 70k) from this series marked out with incrusted rims.
The main composition of the reverse is a sealed envelope as a parcel from Georgia to anywhere in the world and the world map stylised in dots. The number of the denomination with the symbol of Georgian national currency of lari is featured on the seal. The following writings are also applied on the coin: “საქართველო", “Georgia", “1919 - 2019", “5 ლარი".
The coin has been struck in Mennica Polska, in Poland.
