Banknotes worth 100 GEL have been found to be the most commonly counterfeited in Georgia, says the annual report of the National Bank, followed by 50 GEL and 20 GEL notes.
In 2018, 9,030 suspicious banknotes and coins were examined and 6,737 were found to be fake.
Of the bills examined, 4,865 were GEL banknotes and 870 were GEL coins. The other bills examined were 608 USD banknotes, 198 EUR banknotes and 196 of other currencies.
Fake 200, 10 and 5 GEL banknotes were also revealed.
The National Bank of Georgia says the number of fake GEL banknotes reduced by 5.5% in 2018 in comparison to 2017.
