New 10 GEL bills to be released in October

The National Bank of Georgia will release new 10 GEL bills starting October 1.
Old banknotes will remain valid tender.

The National Bank of Georgia announced the modernization of the national currency’s banknotes in 2015, on the 20th anniversary of the Georgian Lari.

The upgraded banknotes were released gradually:
- 20 and 50 GEL banknotes were released on February 1, 2016.
- 100 GELbanknotes were released in November 2016 and 5 GEL banknotes were released on September 1, 2017.
The new 10 GEL bills are the last in line to be upgraded.

Children put forward new designs for 100 GEL bill
Schoolchildren in nine regions of Georgia have created designs for 100 GEL banknotes for a competition announced by the National Bank of Georgia in celebration of the 100th anniversary of its foundation.
This year the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its foundation with number of events planned throughout the year.
Banknotes worth 100 GEL have been found to be the most commonly counterfeited in Georgia, says the annual report of the National Bank, followed by 50 GEL and 20 GEL notes.
The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) will issue a 10 GEL (Georgian lari) silver collector coin, dedicated to Georgian Independence Day. The sale of the coin will start on May 15, 2018 and it can be purchased at the National Bank of Georgia Cash Centre and Money Museum in Kvareli.
New 10 GEL (Georgian lari) banknotes have been released into circulation today across the country.
