New 10 GEL banknotes released today

New 10 GEL (Georgian lari) banknotes have been released into circulation today across the country. 

The 10 GEL banknotes of previous years will remain in circulation. 

On the front of the new banknote there is a portrait of prominent Georgian writer and public figure, Akaki Tsereteli, with a sharper profile as well as an excerpt from the verse of the writer’s ‘gazapkhuli’ (Spring), with his autograph and an image of a swallow. 

On the back side is the famous work of Georgian painter and graphic artist, David Kakabadze, ‘Imereti – Mother’. On the upper right corner of the new banknote is the coat of arms of Georgia.

The National Bank of Georgia announced the modernization of the national currency’s banknotes in 2015, on the 20th anniversary of the Georgian lari. 

The upgraded banknotes were released gradually:

20 and 50 GEL banknotes were released on February 1, 2016.

100 GEL banknotes were released in November 2016 and 5 GEL banknotes were released on September 1, 2017.
