Georgia hosts int’l Ski Cross tournament

Georgia’s winter resort of Bakuriani has hosted the first international Ski Cross tournament this weekend making yet another step forward to hosting the World Skiing and Snowboard Freestyle Championship in 2023 and possibly the Winter Olympic Games in 2030.

Four Georgian skiers, along with athletes from Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Australia and Kazakhstan, took part in the tournament that pits four skiers against one another in a race and which is considered a form of freestyle skiing.

The Austrian athletes shared the top three places on both days. They are:

The first series:

  • 1st place: Bernhard Graf
  • 2nd place: Douglas Crawford
  • 3rd place: Ulrich Hochkogler

The second and final series:

  • 1st Place: Tomas Harasser
  • 2nd Place: Ulrich Hochkogler
  • 3rd Place: Bernhard Graf

Ski Cross is a sport which is included in the Winter Olympics, this is why it is important for Georgia to be hosting an international tournament for Olympic-level sports.

Having successfully accomplished the international tournament in Bakuriani, Georgia hopes to improve its image on the international level.

The Ski Cross tournament in Bakuriani was organised by the Georgian Ski Federation and Mountain Resort Development Company under the aegis of the FIS.
