Georgia’s winter resort of Bakuriani has hosted the first international Ski Cross tournament this weekend making yet another step forward to hosting the World Skiing and Snowboard Freestyle Championship in 2023 and possibly the Winter Olympic Games in 2030.
Four Georgian skiers, along with athletes from Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Australia and Kazakhstan, took part in the tournament that pits four skiers against one another in a race and which is considered a form of freestyle skiing.

Ski Cross is a sport which is included in the Winter Olympics, this is why it is important for Georgia to be hosting an international tournament for Olympic-level sports.
Today Bakuriani hosts the first FIS Race in Ski Cross. Having successfully accomplished the international tournament in Bakuriani, Georgia hopes to improve its image on the international level.
The Ski Cross tournament in Bakuriani was organised by the Georgian Ski Federation and Mountain Resort Development Company under the aegis of the FIS.
