Summer season kicks off in Georgia’s mountain resort of Bakuriani

The Mountain Resorts Development Company of Georgia has officially opened the summer season in Bakuriani.
All the ropeways will work from 11 am to 6 pm every day during the summer season.
"To develop and promote mountain resorts it is necessary to make them attractive during all four seasons. For this reason there is a bikepark and a 29-kilometer-long bike path, suitable for both professionals and amateurs,” the management company of the mountain resorts of Georgia said.
The first mountain sled track in the South Caucasus also known as a toboggan opened in 2016 which is located on Didveli slope will be among Bakuriani’s major attractions this year as well.
A special tourism centre located in Bakuriani’s movie theatre provides tourists with information as to various services and activities available in town, as well as about weather, ropeway and public transport schedules.
Project details were discussed by the Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and the world renowned mountaineer Reinhold Messner today. According to PM Kvirikashvili, the building of the museum will be open from all sides so the visitors will have possibility to see the mountain views from any point.
Georgia’s mountain resorts are becoming popular tourist spots, hosting 514,874 visitors during the winter season in 2017-2018, which is a 25 percent year-on-year (y/y) increase. The number of tourists in Georgia’s mountain resorts of Gudauri, Bakuriani, Goderdzi and Svaneti has increased by 491 percent since 2012.
Borjomi, one of Georgia’s most unique resort localities, will benefit from a new state project transforming it into a network of historical attractions.
In Tbilisi the highest temperature over the next few days is forecast at 40 degrees Celsius.
The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has started construction work on the Bakuriani bypass road.

It marks the first time in the history of the International Ski Federation (FIS) that Georgia will host a World Championship and with more than 25 medal events planned, it is sure to be an eventful World Championships.
