Recent weather has badly affected several regions of Georgia. Experts are now evaluating the damage caused by the intensive downpour all across the country and precise figures will be known shortly.

Georgia’s regions of Imereti, Samegrelo, Kakheti, Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli and Samtskhe Javakheti have been badly affected by the heavy rain during the past several days.

Streets and houses were flooded and roads and other infrastructure objects were severely damaged in western Georgia, including agricultural lands.

Several villages in Imereti have been damaged by the recent downpour, Vice Governor of Imereti, Soso Khakhaleishvili said.

Some people were also evacuated from landslide zones to safer places in the country’s southern region of Samtkshe-Javakheti.

Hail also damaged orchards in the country’s eastern region of Kakheti. The families are now looking for the state support.

Representative of the local government Gogi Butilashvili said the special hail protection facilities have saved the population from even greater damage.

Heavy rain also hit Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi making moving around the city difficult for vehicles and pedestrians in some districts.

Weather experts forecast the rainy weather may continue across the entire country until May 24.
