Georgian Nana Dzagnidze triumphs at European chess championship

Georgian female chess player Nana Dzagnidze has won the European Individual Women’s Chess Championship in the Latvian capital of Riga.

It has been the first time in Georgia’s chess history that a woman won the European championship.

Dzagnidze played a draw in her final match against Russia’s Natalija Pogonina, concluding the tournament with 8.5 points after leading the entire field.

Holding the ninth position in the World Chess Federation’s top list in April Dzagnidze belongs to the Georgian female team of chess players NONA that has a number of victories on its account making Georgia home to smart women.

Per the official webpage of the championship ”the players finishing in the first 14 places at the European tournament in Riga will qualify for the Chess World Cup”.
