Georgia’s female chess team wins coveted European tournament

NONA chess club from Georgia won all seven of their matches and were crowned European champions at the Macedonian competition.

Georgia might be home to smartest women in the world.

This assumption was given strong validation after a female team of Georgian chess players won the European Chess Club Cup held in Macedonia’s capital Skopje on October 17-25.

This result was the latest achievement of Georgia’s national female chess team, who became World Champions earlier this year.

NONA chess club from Georgia won all seven of their matches and were crowned European champions at the Macedonian competition. With this result the Georgian club won the European Club Cup for the second time in a row.

NONA defeated teams from Belarus, Russia, Italy, Macedonia and the Netherlands at the championship where 12 clubs participated.

The Georgian team has won 15 games consecutively this year.

NONA consisted of five players; Nana Dzagnidze, Bela Khotenashvili Bela, Lela Javakhishvili, Nino Batsiashvili and Miranda Mikadze.
