Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili says "we respect and welcome the choice of the Turkish people” following this Sunday’s referendum that gives Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sweeping new powers.
Kvirikashvili took to Facebook and Twitter to comment on the Turkish referendum.
We respect & welcome the choice of Turkish people. #Turkey is a strategic partner & its stable development is important to Georgia & region.

"We respect and welcome the choice of the Turkish people. Turkey is a strategic partner, the stable development of which is of importance to Georgia as well as to the region,” he wrote.
On April 18 a new draft constitution that significantly increases the powers of the Turkish President was approved by voters in a referendum. It was a narrow win for ‘Yes’ though, with only 51.4 percent voting in favour of the changes.
