Georgia and Turkey are striving to improve transport cooperation and further develop automobile traffic between the countries.

These topics were discussed today at a meeting between Georgia’s Economy Minister Giorgi Gakharia and Turkish Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication Ahmet Arslan.

The officials also talked about ongoing and future large-scale regional projects that involve both countries.

Particular attention was paid to shipping permits. Both officials agreed it was desirable to increase the number of shipping permits to boost transport cooperation between Georgia and Turkey.

Developing the country’s transport potential is one of the priorities for the Georgian Government and especially under the circumstances of economic integration and globalisation when trade-economic cooperation is very important,” said Gakharia.
It is very important for us to develop the Silk Road and develop joint projects with our partner countries,” he added.

Gakharia further added that boosting trade-economic relations and international shipping is important to implement transport-related infrastructural projects and modernise the existing infrastructure.

The Minister said Georgia had potential to become a transport and logistic hub of the region.
