Car owners in Georgia will soon start paying a new fee, local media says.

Families with an annual income of more than 40,000 GEL will have to pay the property tax on cars.

More specifically, families with an annual income of 40,000-100,000 GEL will have to pay no less than 0.05 percent and no more than 0.2 percent of the vehicle cost.

Families with an annual income of over 100,000 GEL will have to pay no less than 0.8 percent and no more than 1 percent of the vehicle cost.

Payment of property tax on cars will start from 2018, announced the bpn.ge.

Also, from January 2018 Georgia is starting mandatory vehicle inspections, testing the road worthiness of vehicles before they are allowed to drive on roads.

The vehicle testing will be launched step-by-step and the inspection of all vehicles will take about two years.
