Author talks, publisher events in Georgian program for Frankfurt Book Fair

Book presentations, meetings with authors and stands hosting over a dozen publishers will await visitors interested in discovering Georgian literature at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair.

For five days starting October 11, Georgian authors, publishers and book agencies will meet their counterparts and hold discussions with readers at the event.

During the first three days the fairgrounds will be open for trade visitors, while literary enthusiasts will flock to the annual fair during the weekend of October 14-15.

Celebrated Georgian authors including Nestan Nene Kvinikadze, Salome Benidze and Lasha Bugadze will talk about their recent works to the audience on October 14.

Meanwhile, industry experts from the visiting country will take part in a press conference for Georgia’s status as the Guest of Honour for next year’s fair.

Events presenting Georgian literature to book lovers in Germany will continue to be held in weeks and months following the conclusion of the fair days.

In cities including Berlin, Bonn and Vienna, authors and speakers will present some of the most popular recent works with German translations, while a seminar will be run for up to 7 translators from Georgia and Armenia in Switzerland.

The Frankfurt event is promoted as "the most important international trade fair” for books and literary industry representatives.

Over 270,000 visitors and participants attend the annual event, with around 7,100 exhibitors on fairgrounds.

Georgia’s participation in the 2017 fair marks ongoing celebrations for 25 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The year-long celebrations involve cultural events including exhibitions and screenings in Georgia and Germany.
