Georgian Foreign Minister visits Germany

Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze is paying a working visit to Germany. Within his visit on August 25-27 Janelidze will meet with the representatives of government and business circles.
Meeting with the State Minister of Hessen Lucia Puttrich, Janelidze spoke about the situation at Georgia’s Russian occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).

Introducing Georgia’s successful reforms to the President of Hessen State Parliament Norbert Kartmann, Janelidze spoke of the country’s business and investment opportunities.
He said, the liberal economic policy in the country, free trade agreements with the European Union (EU), China and other leading countries makes Georgia a bridge between Europe and Asia.

This year has been declared as a year celebrating the friendship of Germany and Georgia. It was 25 years ago when Georgia and Germany established their first diplomatic ties, while 200 years ago the very first German people emigrated to Georgia.
Janelidze said Georgia is preparing to be the Guest of Honour at the 2018 Frankfurt Book Fair, which is also an important proof to Georgian-German partnership.
The Georgian-German Year, an 18-month-long series of cultural and political events celebrating the 200 years of friendship and 25 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, has officially begun in Berlin today.
For the first time in recent years, Georgia has not been among the 25 countries whose citizens commit the most crimes in Germany.
Georgia’s Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze says that 2017 will be a very active year for deepening NATO-Georgia relations.

A piece from the Berlin Wall has been installed in Old Tbilisi today as a symbol of Georgian-German friendship. Prime Minister Kvirikashvili received a piece of the wall during his visit to Germany in June this year.
