Georgia’s high mountainous region Adjara is turning white with snow which gives winter enthusiasts high expectation of unforgettable winter adventure this season.

Even though winter is about one month away, snow depth reaches 60 centimetres at the Goderdzi Pass that leads to Georgia’s newest winter resort Goderdzi in Adjara.

The Goderdzi pass is closed now for the vehicles while the special techniques are cleaning the road from snow.

Twenty-five villages in Adjara stayed without electricity supply, however the representatives from the electricity provider company Energo Pro Georgia said the brigades had been working to ensure the service in the coming hours.

Goderdzi resort is located 2,366m above sea level and is a two hour drive from the most popular seaside resort town of Batumi in western Georgia. The Goderdzi mountains are snow-covered by an average 6-7m of snow between November and April.

Goderdzi resort opened in December last year and was funded with 23 million GEL (about $10 million/€8.81 million*) from the state budget and with €10.9 million from the Austrian Government. The Austrian government allocated this money to install ski lifts in the winter resort.

The four-season mountain resort still lacks the infrastructural development. To overcome this challenge the Government of Georgia has created the general development plan for Goderdzi.

The plan, which was presented to the public this April, outlined to increase the number of beds available in hotels to accommodate at least 3,500 overnight visitors, while infrastructure at Goderdzi will be developed to host about 7,000 guests simultaneously.

The Government of Georgia started negotiations with investors and the local population to reach several important agreements this season to start building hotels as soon as possible.

As of today there are seven residential cottages, one hotel and one administrative building in Goderdzi.

The Government of Georgia also started rehabilitation of the road leading to the Goderdzi ski resort.
