Georgia’s western Adjara region at the Black Sea coast is celebrating the opening of another five-star hotel this weekend.

Castello Mare Hotel & Wellness Resort opened its doors in Tsikhisdziri, 17km away from Batumi city last night.

Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili attended the opening ceremony and said $25 million USD had been invested to build the new hotel.

"This is an utterly beautiful and unique resort and recreational complex that perfectly fits in this beautiful and historic area,” Kvirikashvili said at the opening ceremony.

He noted the project's main investor was a Georgian man who had earned his fortune abroad but wanted to invest in his home country.

The complex consisted of 90 rooms of eight different categories. It also offered a spa centre, recreational zone with sports hall, indoor and outdoor pools, several types of sauna, jacuzzi, cosmetic rooms and a beauty salon that offered about 100 fitness and therapeutic procedures. All rooms in the hotel had a sea view.

The hotel also had a conference hall, tennis court, billiard, bowling and diving school.

In his speech Kvirikashvili also spoke about Georgia’s tourism potential and said Batumi, a very popular location for tourists, was now becoming a business centre.

He named several large-scale projects currently being implemented in Georgia to attract tourists and said all of these served one ultimate goal – to benefit the local population.

"We should turn away from negativism and face positivism. We all should unite around our goals, think of a better future and build our Georgia together,” Kvirikashvili said.
