Models will soon strut down the catwalk wearing creations by local and international designers at this year’s Tbilisi Fashion Week (TFW).

Journalists, photographers and industry insiders are gearing up for the upcoming TFW event, which will present designers’ fall-winter collections for 2015-2016.

The 11th TFW will be held from April 16-19 and feature a mix of 20 well-known Georgian designers and newcomers.

This time TWF will have a new location – Iveria Group Event Hall – where a 30 metre catwalk will be erected for models to walk along, allowing guests to get up close and personal with the pieces.

The front row bench will be shared by the Georgian fashion industry’s elite and honourable guests from different countries. Among them will be Russian TV anchor Ksenia Sobchak, Italian photographers and fashion journalists from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and other countries.

Fashion journalists from Vogue, Elle Official, Buro and other fashion magazines are expected to attend and write about TFW.

The event will be supported by Georgia’s Ministry of Economy, Oriflame cosmetics and Honda Centre Tbilisi.

Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy Ketevan Bochorishvili said the Ministry would actively support TWF and encourage Georgian designers. She also believed TWF would contribute to raising the awareness of Georgia’s potential as a tourist destination among the international journalists.

"Our main goal is to maximally support the popularisation of Georgian designers at the international level. Many international journalists will visit Georgia during Tbilisi Fashion Week. They will cover news not only about Tbilisi Fashion Week but also about Georgia as a touristic country and about its tourism potential,” Bochorishvili said.

TFW founder Sophio Mamardashvili said Ukrainian and Kazakh designers will also show their fall and winter 2015-2016 collections alongside Georgian designers.

TFW was established in 2009 during Tbilisoba festival. The event is held twice a year, in spring and fall, and attended by local and international industry professionals.

TFW is considered a fashion hub in the Caucasus, which supports the development of the local fashion industry, introduces new faces to the business and promotes the export of Georgian fashion pieces abroad.
