French Senate ratifies Georgia-EU Association Agreement

Today the French Senate ratified the Association Agreement (AA) between Georgia and the European Union (EU).
The French Parliament is the bicameral legislature of the French Republic, consisting of the Senate and the National Assembly.
Prior to the today’s voting the National Assembly approved the AA agreement between Georgia and the EU at its first reading and later the Senate confirmed the document without any amendments.
Now a formal part of the process – the French President’s signature – is all that remained of the obligatory processes before ratification of the deal was completed.
With this vote France will become the 25th EU country to ratify the Georgia-EU deal.
The Georgia-EU Association deal has already been ratified by European Parliament and 24 of 28 EU member states.
EU Association deals must be ratified by all 28 EU member countries before they can be fully implemented.
Georgia’s AA deal was signed by a country representative and the EU on June 27, 2014 in Brussels.
The Austrian National Council has ratified the Association Agreement (AA) between Georgia and the European Union (EU).
The Kingdom of Netherlands has ratified the Association Agreement (AA) between Georgia and the European Union (EU).
Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski completed the ratification of the Association Agreement (AA) between Georgia and the European Union (EU) today.
The National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia has ratified the Association Agreement (AA) between Georgia and the European Union (EU).
The House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus has ratified the Association Agreement (AA) between Georgia and the European Union (EU).
Both Chambers of Parliament of the Czech Republic finished the ratification process of the Association Agreement signed by the European Union and Georgia on June 27, 2014 in Brussels.
Members of the Portugal National Assembly voted today in favour of the ratification of the Association Agreement (AA) made between Georgia and the European Union (EU).
Garibashvili described the signature of the Agreement as a "new great date in the chronicles of his homeland”.
Seven European Parliament Members (MEPs) are in Tbilisi to meet their local counterparts and discuss the progress Georgia was making towards European integration.

One country left to ratify deal
Italy has become the 27th of 28 European Union (EU) member states to ratify the Georgia-EU Association Agreement (AA).
This afternoon Usupashvili announced Belgium – the final EU state to sign the Georgia-EU deal – had penned the agreement this morning. Through this step, the Georgia-EU AA ratification process was completed.
French media outlet-France 24 has reported that issuing of tourist visas will take only 48 hours for Georgian, Armenian, Turkish, Vietnamese and Indonesian citizens. The media cited French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius as saying.
