Georgia is developing its relationship with Jordan and taking the bilateral partnership to new, higher levels.

A delegation representing the Parliament of Jordan is on a six-day official visit to Georgia for the purpose of strengthening current ties and forging new areas of cooperation.

Meetings have already been held between Georgian and Jordan Members of Parliament (MPs) and the foreign delegation has already met with Georgia’s Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili, who stressed the importance of active bilateral parliamentary cooperation.

Today’s meetings yielded several positive outcomes, stated Georgian MPs after the meetings.

With both parties supporting the idea of closer parliamentary cooperation, the Jordanian officials noted their country was ready to help facilitate new Arabian investments to Georgia and open its university doors to Georgian students.

Furthermore an Honorary Consul of Jordan will start functioning in Georgia.

Georgian MP Malxaz Tsereteli said the lack of official representation of Jordan to Georgia hindered the inflow and outflow of tourists between the two countries.

From a religious and tourism point of view the country is especially attractive [for Georgians]. One of the new wonders of the world – Petra city - is located in Jordan,” Tsereteli said.
For us to cooperate with the Arabian side in different directions, with large-scale investments among them, Georgia can use Jordan as a window – this was a vital message of the meetings,” Tsereteli said, adding Georgia and Jordan could be close allies in the international arena as well.

Fellow Georgian MP Zakaria Kutsnashvili stressed the Jordanian side was ready to finance the studies of two Georgia students in their country.

In return we offered them the opportunity for their students to study engineering and medicine in Georgia. Encouraging and supporting educational relations and exchange programmes will better promote mutual relations,” Kutsnashvili said.

At the meeting with Georgia’s Parliament Speaker, the sides spoke about the Parliamentary diplomacy role in bilateral relations and expressed commitment for future active cooperation.
