A fund to develop democratic processes in Georgia, offer scholarships and implement cultural activities, in the name of the late Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania has been established.
The Zurab Zhvania Fund was officially announced at a small ceremony today. The presentation was attended by founders and the family members of Zhvania and media.
Creation of the foundation was initiated by Zhvaniass mother and daughter and its goal is to support democratic processes and implement various cultural and educational activities.
Zhvanias daughter and one of the founders of the fund, Lizi Zhvania, said the Fund would help address issues in the education sector.
"I think that today one of the most painful issue in Georgia is education, and it is impossible that Zurab Zhvanias Fund does not relate to the contribution in this field.
"The Fund is currently working on a plan to decide how the scholarship will be given out and my contribution involves helping to create a strategy on what spheres to concentrate, she said.
The fund also planned to print and promote Zurab Zhvanias publications.
"The goals of the fund is to develop democratic processes and a democratic society in Georgia, to protect human rights and freedoms, to protect Zurab Zhvanias intellectual and material inheritance, also to print and promote his publications, said the Foundations Board Chairman David Gugushvili.
He also added that the fund would be actively involved in cultural and educational activities, including establishing and issuing scholarships and rewards.
The Foundation office will be located in the house where Zurab Zhvania previously lived.
The late Prime Minister and one of the main contributors of the 2003 Rose Revolution, passed away in February 2005.
His death is still being investigated.
