Judo will soon be added to the curriculum of kindergartens all around Georgia.
JudoKids is a new project of the Georgian Judo Federation which has become a popular sport attraction for children in Georgia’s eastern region of Kakheti.
Launched in January this year, the federation plans to enter each and every kindergarten all around the country to promote a healthy lifestyle among the youngsters in two years’ time.
Georgian Judo Federation President Davit Kevkhishvili said this is currently a pilot project but they plan to enter other kindergartens soon in the future.
We have started from Telavi (municipality in Kakheti region) and will cover all of Georgia. Thus we will give children knowledge [of sport] at an early stage of their development so that they will be able to engage in professional sport in the future”, Kevkhishvili said.
Foreign trainers from the International Judo Federation who are currently paying a visit to Georgia offered a variety of exercises and sport games to children and shared ideas with their Georgian colleagues.
Georgian Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Tariel Khechikashvili also attended the training. He said the ministry will assist the federation with the project implementation.
