Judo: Second gold for Georgia at Tbilisi Grand Prix

After two days of competition Georgia has six medals: two gold, one silver and three bronze.

Georgia has won another gold medal at an International Judo Federation (IJF) competition held in Georgia's capital Tbilisi.

Nugzar Tatalashvili competed in the men’s 73 kilogram category at the IJF Tbilisi Grand Prix at the New Sports Palace and won a gold medal on the second day of the event.

This win saw Tatalashvili win the category at Tbilisi Grand Prix for the second time during his judo career.

Meanwhile Tatalashvili became the second Georgian to win gold at the Tbilisi competition following Vazha Margvelashvili’s triumph on the first day.

Apart from Tatalashvili, four other Georgian judokas competed on the second day of the event, three of whom won a medal.

Levan Gagua (81kg) received a silver medal and Lasha Shavdatuashvili (73) and Pridon Gigani (73) both won bronze.

These results meant after two competition days Georgia has two gold medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals.

The third and final day of the competition today will decide which nation becomes the ultimate winner of the Grand Prix.

Georgia’s capital is hosting the prestigious IJF competition for the first time.

About 400 leading judokas from 67 countries are currently in Tbilisi for the event.
