Observers from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will monitor the upcoming 2016 Parliamentary Elections in Georgia in October.
This was announced when OSCE top official, Secretary General Lamberto Zannier met Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili in Tbilisi this afternoon.
Kvirikashvili encouraged the OSCE official to send as many observers as possible and as soon as possible to ensure "full transparency” of the election process.
The Georgian leader pledged the Government would ensure the elections are "in full accordance with democratic election principles”.
The two officials also discussed Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration process and the situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories.
Kvirikashvili drew special attention to the May 19 murder of a young Georgian man at the Administrative Boundary Line, separating breakaway Abkhazia region from the rest of Georgia and stressed the need of "proper reaction” to the incident.
At the meeting Zannier expressed his support for Georgia’s visa-free travel to the European Union (EU).
