Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili says the resignation of Georgia's Minister of Defence and Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality was discussed and agreed by the current ruling Georgian Dream (GD) coalition member parties.

The PM reiterated there would be no GD coalition for the upcoming October 8 Parliamentary Elections, and this was why the two ministers from the the coalition member Republican Party would resign from their posts.

Now  Minister of Defence Tinatin Khidasheli is on official visit to the United States  (US) so we are waiting for the completion of her trip. Regarding the Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Paata Zakareishvili, we will work through all necessary resignation procedures in the coming days,” said Kvirikashvili.
The coalition parties had discussions about election-related issues and together we made civilized solutions,” Kvirikashvili added.

While Defence Minister Khidasheli and Reconciliation and Civil Equality Minister Zakareishvili decided to resign, a third minister from the Republican Party, Minister of Environment Gigla Agulashvili, decided to stay in his post. Kvirikashvili said Agulashvili was "a very good Minister" and he was pleased Agulashvili had chosen to remain as a minister and join the main party of the Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia Party (GDDG) coalition.

The GD coalition founded in 2012 for the Parliamentary Elections by Georgia’s ex-Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili to challenge United National Movement in the elections.

This year the coalition will split for the October 8 Parliamentary Elections. It was stated the GDDG and the Conservative Party will run together in the elections while the Republicans, Industrials and the National Forum will participate separately in the race.
