Parliamentary Elections:Energy Minister leads ruling party’s pre-election campaign

Georgia’s Energy Minister Kakha Kaladze has been chosen to lead the Georgian Dream Democratic Georgia (GDDG) party through the pre-election period before the October 8, 2016 Parliamentary Elections.

Yesterday Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili named Kaladze in the role and said he had good managerial skills, had relevant experience and was capable of ensuring the ruling party’s pre-election campaigning met high European standards.

Kvirikashvili stressed it was essential and a big responsibility of the Government to hold the upcoming elections in free and transparent environment.

In response Kaladze said: 

I will do my best to appropriately fulfill this big responsibility. Through the upcoming elections the international community will see that democratic reforms are irreversible in Georgia.”

Political parties in Georgia were officially allowed to begin pre-election campaigning yesterday, after PM Kvirikashvili signed the President’s degree that stated June 8 as the date to begin the pre-election campaign and October 8, 2016 as the date of the Parliamentary Elections.

According to the Central Election Commission, 28 political parties have applied to register for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections. 

Five of these political parties have had their registration applications approved by the CEC while the other 23 parties are still going through the registration process. 

Several major parties such as GDDS, United National Movement, Free Democrats and others have not yet applied to register for the upcoming elections. 

Parties have until early August to apply to register for the Parliamentary Elections.

CEC announced 3. 473. 316 voters were registered for the elections.
