Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday expressed his condolences to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze over a tragic fire in the Russian-occupied Abkhazia region in the north-west of the country, which claimed the lives of five minors.

I share your grief and extend my heartfelt condolences to you, the families and loved ones of the children who lost their lives, and the entire people of Georgia on behalf of myself and the people of Azerbaijan”, Aliyev said.

On Sunday, a house in the village of Saberio caught fire, killing five children from one family.

The head of the Government declared Thursday a day of mourning following the tragedy, with flags on state institutions across the country lowered to half-mast.
