Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Tuesday reviewed the “difficult humanitarian situation” in the country’s Russian-occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions, at the meeting with Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
At the meeting, held on the sidelines of the ongoing UN Human Rights Council’s 55th session, the officials discussed the rights of internally displaced persons and refugees, with Darchiashvili highlighting the importance of the activities of the UN’s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Tbilisi in this regard.

The FM pointed out the need to allow international mechanisms in the occupied regions and keep Georgia’s issues at the top of the UN High Commissioner’s agenda, the Foreign Ministry said.
The conversation also touched on the policy and programmes of the Georgian Government regarding internally displaced persons and refugees.
