Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Alain Berset, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, on Thursday discussed the “fruitful” cooperation between Georgia and the CoE, on the sidelines of the European Political Community Summit in Budapest.
The sides emphasised the organisation’s “significant contribution” to Georgia's path to European integration in the process of implementing reforms, the Government Administration said.
The officials also reviewed the “challenges” facing European security and the current situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia, emphasising the role of the CoE in the peaceful resolution of the conflict and confidence building, including through humanitarian projects and dialogue mechanisms.
Kobakhidze and Berset also underscored the “special importance” of the annual decisions of the Committee of Ministers of the CoE and the 29th consolidated report of its Secretary General on the conflict in Georgia.
The PM expressed readiness to “further deepen cooperation” with the Council of Europe, highlighting the organisation’s “crucial role in fostering democracy, human rights, and rule of law” throughout Europe.
