Sixty-five displaced families were on Wednesday handed keys to fully renovated flats in a residential building in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, after the accommodation was purchased for them by the national Agency of Internally Displaced Persons, Eco-Migrants and Livelihoods Provision.
Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Minister of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs, handed the families the keys and emphasised the Government’s “commitment to creating decent living conditions for internally displaced persons”.
The flats were purchased by the Agency from a private construction company for the purpose of resettlement of IDPs.
The event also featured Levan Mgaloblishvili, the Chair of the Government of the Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia, Giorgi Tsagareishvili, the Deputy Minister of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health and Social Affairs and Zurab Utiashvili, the Director of the Agency.
Construction is also underway on residential complexes in five cities across Georgia, including 11 blocks in Tbilisi, to accommodate 2,400 families of IDPs.
