Georgia’s Ana Japaridze wins bronze medal at Paralympic Games

Georgian para taekwondo athlete Ana Japaridze on Thursday claimed bronze medal in the women’s 52kg division at the ongoing Summer Paralympic Games in Paris.

Japaridze, the youngest member of the Georgian national team, defeated Ali Abd Al Monem Hassan Salma of Egypt in the bronze medal match.

During the day, she defeated Turkey’s Meryem Betül Çavdar, the vice-champion of the 2020 Summer Paralympic Games, 7:6 to earn the spot in the semi-finals of the women’s 52kg division. The Georgian athlete had advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Ariana Paola Aguila Ramos of the United States 22:2 at the tournament.

Ana Japaridze is the third Georgian female para athlete to win a medal at Paralympics along with Nina Tibilashvili and Ina Kaldani who are silver medallists. Notably, it is the first time Georgian para taekwondo athletes are competing at the Paralympics.
