Georgia’s Ana Japaridze reaches Paralympic Games taekwondo semi-finals

Georgian para taekwondo athlete Ana Japaridze on Thursday advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 52kg division at the ongoing Summer Paralympic Games in Paris.

Japaridze, the youngest member of the Georgian national team, defeated Turkey’s Meryem Betül Çavdar, the vice-champion of the 2020 Summer Paralympic Games, 7:6 to earn the spot.

The Georgian athlete had advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Ariana Paola Aguila Ramos of the United States 22:2 at the tournament.

The 19-year-old will face Iran’s Zahra Rahimi in the semifinals later today.

Georgian para taekwondo athletes are participating at the Games for the first time, with Giorgi Nikoladze, another member of the country’s national team, joining the competition on Friday.

The tournament is scheduled to run until September 8.
