Georgian athlete advances to Paralympic Games taekwondo quarterfinals

Georgian para taekwondo athlete Ana Japaridze on Thursday advanced to the quarterfinals of the women’s 52kg division at the ongoing Summer Paralympic Games in Paris.

Japaridze, the youngest member of the Georgian national team, defeated Ariana Paola Aguila Ramos of the United States 22:2 to gain the place in the quarterfinals.

The 19-year-old Georgian athlete will face Turkey’s Meryem Betül Çavdar later today.

Georgian para taekwondo athletes are participating at the Games for the first time, with Giorgi Nikoladze, another member of the country’s national team, joining the competition on Friday.

The tournament is scheduled to run until September 8.
